Page 1 of 8 Greetings to each and every one of you from John and Diana Chhetri.NEPAL NEWS.COMThe events of year 2008 are of great significance to Nepal. They have rewritten its history pages, a new beginning emerges. "New Nepal" The term ‘New Nepal’ has been coined to illustrate the huge paradigm shift that has undertaken the nation of Nepal. This year the royal family was forced to vacate the Narayanhiti Royal Palace where the royal Shah dynasty had lived for 240 years and ruled Nepal. Within four months the royal palace will be transformed into a national museum and opened for public viewing. The crowned Prince and his family have moved to Singapore for good. This year in June, the first ever general election was held and in July Nepal was declared as the Federal Republic of Nepal. The first ever President of Nepal was created and elected to office. The general election was won by none other than the Maoists, who were until sometime ago feared as dreaded militants and black listed as the terrorist outfit. Today this same group is heading the government of Nepal and its former head is now the Prime Minister. The old monarchy constitution was abolished and a new secular constitution is to be rewritten in its place. What this holds for the future of Nepal, no one knows. Please pray for the growth of the churches in Nepal and its continued boldness to share the gospel. |
