The events of year 2008 are of great significance to Nepal. They have rewritten its history pages, a new beginning emerges.
‘New Nepal’
The term ‘New Nepal’ has been coined to illustrate the huge paradigm
shift that has undertaken the nation of Nepal. This year the royal
family was forced to vacate the Narayanhiti Royal Palace where the
royal Shah dynasty had lived for 240 years and ruled Nepal. Within four
months the royal palace will be transformed into a national museum and
opened for public viewing. The crowned Prince and his family have moved
to Singapore for good.

When the king stepped down last April, Nepal changed from being the only Hindu kingdom in the world to a secular state. As of the meantime, an interim government is being formed but there is a growing distrust between the political parties and the Maoist. Pray that there will be peace in the coming June planned elections. Pray that there would be no ethnic violence in the country as groups of indigenous people are fighting for separate states.
